Join us at Sari Sari Company for a special Halloween figure drawing experience inspired by Philippine folklore, featuring artist and figure drawing model Joy Velasco, who will bring the mythical Manananggal to life through a handcrafted costume.
What is a Manananggal?
Deeply rooted in Philippine folklore, the Manananggal is a mythical, vampire-like creature known for its ability to separate its upper body from its lower half and take flight with large, bat-like wings. Often appearing as a woman by day, the Manananggal transforms into a fearsome nocturnal creature after dark.
For this special session, Joy Velasco reimagines this legendary figure through costume design, performance, and visual storytelling, offering artists a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of folklore, fashion, and the human form.
What to Expect
This two-hour guided figure drawing session will feature two 30-minute poses, allowing participants to study the details, textures, and silhouette of Joy's Manananggal costume.
Whether you're a beginner exploring figure drawing for the first time or an experienced artist looking for a unique subject, this session offers a welcoming space to practice observation, experiment with drawing techniques, and create alongside fellow artists.
